Stay alert to symptoms of diabetes (Moorpark Acorn)

Diabetes is the leading cause of nontraumatic, lowerlimb amputations in the United States. Nearly 21 million people in the U.S. have diabetes and of those, 3.2 are African Americans. Considered high risk for type 2 diabetes, African Americans are almost three times more likely to require lower-limb amputations than their Caucasian counterparts.

High-Carb Diet Raises Women’s Diabetes Risk (HealthDay via Yahoo! News)

TUESDAY, Nov. 27 (HealthDay News) — Black American women and Chinese women who ate foods high on the glycemic index — which measures the effect of carbohydrates on blood glucose levels — were at increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes, two new studies found.
